Lee's Experiment

I sat in my nice comfy chair, watching television as I waited for Greg. He knew how I could get sometimes. I could get... a little insane, just a little. He just dismisses my creations and projects as "Lee just being Lee." My latest experiment, on the other hand, will definitely catch his attention a bit more than the "Edible Silverware" and the "E.L.F. Corps". Those always bring a smile to my face.
You see I am a "scientist." My field? Neoanthropology. My version of studying humans and their nature. I am completely against animal testing, but humans are no normal animals. We are something far beyond. We have the ability to speak, create civilizations and form societies far more advanced than your everyday cockroach or dog. No, no, we are much more structured and complex.
Upon studying I found something remarkable. I found an "End of Days" chapter in one of my anthropology books. I read about the coming apocalypse. I read how it could be as soon as 2012. I didn't believe it at first. So I checked out a few other books, all but one had the same exact idea. I decided to change that.
All authors have different beliefs or ideas, and it's no coincedence that several authors who have never met each other, have the same opinion. I had plenty of spare time and money lying around so I decided to put Mr. Richard McCools idea to the test. Mr. McCool believes that the apocalypse won't happen until God sees Christianity spread throughout the world and everyone knows who Jesus was and what he has done.
My basement is a sort of "laboratory." In my field of work, I need test subjects. So, I breed humans. I watch and monitor, make sure everything goes to plan. I find a depraved arousal within it. Nobody knows, except for Greg and I, and Greg has his own problems to deal with.
I have been breeding humans for quite some time, thirty years at least. I started with my own son, Edward. Once his mother passed, I decided to start neoanthropology. I set him in a small room and I've kept him there his entire life. He knows English, Spanish, German, Russian, and most of the Asian languages. He is strong, smart, and fearless. Trained to kill anything and everything, Edward is the perfect human being.
Edward knows nothing of the world, so this room is his life. These bookshelves are his walls and these books are his tools. He doesn't want to explore our planet. He is 35 now and the father of 26 children, five mothers. All my subjects. The mothers are women I have kidnapped, and no one knows that I have them. They have been brainwashed and believe I am their master... such feeble minds.
I check my wristwatch as I wait for Greg. He is probably dealing with the hassles of the real world. I have asked him numerous times to become a subject and stop dealing with the real world. He, of course, declined.
I changed the channel to a news station. It was talking about local kidnappings in my area... I didn't care. I lit a cigarette as a knock came from the door. I walked to it and looked through the peephole. It was Greg and somebody I didn't recognize.
I opened the door and with our usual, "Hey Lee!" and "Hey Greg!" I was introduced to Wallace, Isaiah Wallace. He was a friend of Greg's from work, which I'm pretty sure is at a local pawn shop.
"So, Greg, do you want to see the newest one?"
"Newest what?" Greg had not told Isaiah what my line of profession was. I looked at Isaiah and turned back to Greg.
"You didn't tell him did you?"
"No... Isaiah, Lee is a scientist. A special sort of scientist. He studies humans and their nature, you know, the way they act and stuff."
"Ah, I see."
"No, you probably don't. Now you can't tell anyone about this, at all. Lee can get into a bunch of trouble. He has a laboratory in the basement, with all his test subjects down there."
"Like mice and stuff?"
"Like people and stuff."
"What?"
"Yeah."
"Dude, you're fuckin crazy!" Greg grabbed Isaiah, knowing he would, the second he's given the opportunity, jump up and sprint out of the house. I ran to lock the front door.
"No, Isaiah, I am doing it for a good cause. Do you want to die?"
"N... no..." Isaiah probably thought these were his last moments alive so he stopped struggling. Greg was a big guy and Isaiah almost broke his hold.
"Good, the end of the world will happen in 2012, I'm convinced. In order for the end of the world to happen, God wants to see Christianty spread throughout the globe. Meaning, everyone knows what Jesus has done. Right?"
"Sure." He was still scared half to death.
"Greg make him a cup of tea or something." As Greg got up Isaiah motioned that he wanted two cubes of sugar. "Anyway, I don't want to die when I'm seventy-two, I want to live to one hundred. I don't think you want to die at..."
"I'm twenty-six."
"Thirty-three, so, I am making sure Jesus's name doesn't reach some people so early."
"I see. So you want me to become a... a 'test subject?' "
"Oh no, of course not. I just wanted Greg to see my newest project... which reminds me. Greg?"
"Yeah?"
"Did you hear all that?"
"Yeah."
"Good. So, do you guys want to see them?"
"See what?"
"My subjects." I said with a malevolent grin. He gave a weak half-smile in return.
"Let's go, then." Isaiah and I got up from our chairs, and Greg came into the front room from the kitchen. We walked towards a small door to the right of the dining room door. I pulled out a small key from my pocket and unlocked it. I opened it and flicked a light switch. We glided down a flight of stairs and stopped in a dark corridor. It was dimly lit by the light at the top of the stairs.
We walked to the second door on the left and went in. I flicked another light switch. The room erupted with screams. We were standing on a platform at the front of the room. Below us were 34 screaming subjects. Edward was in another room. There were the five mothers, the twenty five children, and the four children they produced.
"Thirty three... Thirty four... yep, they're all here." I turned to Isaiah and Greg. Their mouths, wide open, their eyes, wide open, their expressions, priceless. "What do you guys think?"
"Wow, Lee... wow..." Greg has known me since Flora, my former wife, died. Which is about thirty years and he knows I had never done anything to this sort of scale before. Usually there were only one or two subjects, now I have a little under three dozen.
"I know! They are going to breed forever, so a certain part of the world will never know Jesus's name, so the world will never end! Isn't that great?" I turned from my dumbfounded friends back to the subjects. Their faces, pale from lack of sunlight, they were toothpick skinny, I don't know why though, I feed them every time I get the chance and there's a vat of water down there. Their eyes were all pale blue or brown, like their fathers, and their hair was all shaved, to avoid lice and other vermin that spread diseases.
They are cleaned and sanitized everyday. Unlike their father, none of them can speak any language at all. They could only shriek and scream.
"To think, it all started with my son. Isaiah, would you like to meet my Edward?"
"Sure..." we left and locked the door behind us, the screams and shrieks still emitting from within. The three of us made our way to the door on the opposite side of the corridor. I unlocked the door and went inside. A man was reading a book on a couch I had put down here. There wasn't much else he could do in here, so all he did was either read books or lift weights.
He looked at us. His stone blue and brown eyes shot from me, to Greg, and to Isaiah, who was looking more puzzled than before.
"Father! How nice to see you."
"Edward, you are looking great! Nice and in shape too! You're getting to be a big boy!" I turned and locked the door, Isaiah quickly noticed what I was doing and looked like he was going into a panic. "Don't worry, just making sure Edward doesn't get out. He's one of them, you know."
"Edward, you remember Greg, right?" They looked at each other and smiled.
"Of course," He looked at me. "How can I forget my own son?" It took Isaiah a second to figure out what he had just said, but when he did, his expression was priceless, again.
"You see, Isaiah, Edward's my father, which means Lee is my grandfather."
"You said he was a friend of your fathers!" He just stood there.
"Yeah, he is a friend. You don't have to be not related to be friends." Greg and Edward smiled.
"You see Isaiah, food is expensive nowadays, and I have to feed 36 people! I can't do that. I am rich but I don't have that kind of money, so..."
"Holy, shit! No, No! Help! Please help!" Isaiah was bit slow, but he wasn't that dumb, I'm pretty sure he figured it out pretty damn fast. Isaiah turned towards the door, kicking, screaming, flailing for his life. "Oh God! Help Me!"
"God's not gonna help you! In fact he's the reason you're here! He's the reason you will die today..." We had a small chuckle at that. Isaiah was obviously deciding his options, which there weren't many of. "So you can either die easy... or painfully. Which will you choose?"
"You can go to Hell!" He fell to the floor.
"Not anytime soon, so I'm not that concerned." I pulled a gun from my pocket. I aimed it at Isaiah's head. He stared down the barrel.
"No, please! I'll do anything! Don't kill me." He put his hands out in front of him. I hate it when they beg for their lives, I almost feel guilty or regretful.
"It's for a good cause." I cocked the gun and Isaiah jumped on me. I was old, I was in my sixties and he thinks he has the right to jump on me! It's an outrage! Edward came over and picked him up. Isaiah flailed around and kicked Edward in the testicles as he tried to undo his grip. Edward didn't even flinch, since feeling of the testicles is part of his self-control factor.
"Isaiah, anything you'd like to say before you die?" He stopped trying to escape, he knew he was as good as dead anyway. I put the gun up to his temple.
"Yeah, I'll see you in Hell." His eyes were puffy and red, his face was flustered. He was staring me in the eyes.
"I thought I told you, I don't care." I pulled the trigger, blood and other pieces and bits splattered on nearby bookcases. Edward dropped Isaiah James Wallace's body on the cold concrete and looked at me.
"Well, Let me go carve this one. Greg, you go out and try to find some more." Edward picked Isaiah's carcass up off the ground.
"Alright, father." I unlocked the door for Greg. He went up the stairs, a moment later I heard the front door slam shut.
I watched Edward go to the next door over. I went ahead and walked upstairs, and into the kitchen. Had a cup of Isaiah's tea, and returned into the front room. I turned on the television, sat in my favorite chair, and waited for Greg to come back with more people. I changed the channel to a news station. It was talking about local kidnappings in my area...
