Beach, in stages

This is what I will remember:
Sand mermaid,
She licks apple sauce from a plastic spoon,
Red line outside a black bikini
because we stayed too long
Poems poems poems
-a new style
Dress, shopping in sync with dawn.
Steps, sand-covered, gravel, too hot to put your feet on
Pink skin, oh so pink where sun has scorched
Parrot back, good girl, pretty bird.
Staring at my chest from the front seat
of a slow moving van
(should've given them the finger
when I had the chance)
Black, always wearing black.
Aftersun, coconut scented
Smothered in lotion, of one kind or another (ante/post)
Procrastinating heavy
The air thick, rained this morning for the first time
The beach, where heat gives the illusion of life
but makes us immovably slow.
