‘We live a tapas existence, bite size morsels of content that permeate our existence, causing us moments of sadness, happiness, excitement etc. This is what is presented to us, and our identities are constructed from these foundations. Identities rife with a doubleness - insecurity, then often confidence and wicked arrogance. We grow interested and build strength from a multitude of small intrinsic human laws but also vacant to a further multitude of nothing’s and everything’s.’
Jack would stay to hear more but he has to get going. Besides, he’ll find the short form video edit online later.
‘Keep Left’ sign at Leicester Square station leads Jack from the Northern Line to Piccadilly Line. He walks on the right. It’s a small victory. To his left the majority of commuters rush ahead, frequently bumping. Two Chinese girls are holding hands in front. They get overtaken and he loses sight of them. He flicks the next song on his iPhone. On comers flurry past casting a few eyes. Doubt creeps upon him, he looks to the left to see if he can gain access to the correct walkway. They pass, he keeps his line, but now annoyed at that momentary self-doubt.
On the tube, Jack gets a seat and changes song. There are three coffee drinkers ; two Starbucks, one Costa. Two sneakers speak to him on the carriage. Both Nike high-tops; both green. Must be a seasonal thing. He digs out his phone. Inputs in NOTES, ‘ Nike H-Top Grn c£80 Asos???’ Something for later perhaps. Green Park is called. There are two kids, feet dangling above the ground, poking at their parents. Both have bobble hats on. One pattern is really simple. The other more complex. The first pattern is better. Had he been a designer, he would have made one like that. Hyde Park Corner is called.
