The hot, rusted metal underneath my feet sliced my soles, but I kept walking. I couldn’t bring myself to go back now, even though I had nowhere to go back to.
She was standing right on the rail, her toes curled over, her arms by her side. She looked straight ahead, squinting into the distance, her lips slightly trembling. I was taken back by how calm she was. I initially thought she would run over me and pin me down, clawing at my face. But she looked drained of her fiery spirit.
Her head tilted towards me agonizingly slowly. I kept my focus right on her eyes; I wasn’t going to show how afraid I was as well. Her eyes shined as she looked up into the clouds. A beam of light shined through clouds, making a spotlight on her.
In that moment she looked gorgeous. Gorgeous as the day I met her. She probably hadn’t washed in days, and she was dressed in filth. But she was still the most beautiful creature.

I cringed as the shot pierced the virgin air. My eyes could hardly focus watching her feet relax from the rail and slip off, her eyes widening, her wild mane flailing back from her face.
I swear I saw her grin as she plunged like a knife down into the water. A small splash, and the water settled again. I looked over and saw her cold blood spreading. I looked away in case she resurfaced. That was the last I wanted to see of her.
When I turned my gaze back to the bridge, my eye caught a gleam of metal where she had been standing. I walked towards it and picked up a gun, similar to mine.
She wanted to fight back, but she was too afraid.
I opened the gun to take out the bullets to keep for the rest of my journey. But none were inside. I opened my pistol and stared at the two bullets inside.
I came to the bridge with two bullets.
