Images crash around me
Like the contents
Of an overturning car
Compassion is shattered
Like a windscreen
Guilt drives itself into my chest
Like a steering column
I’m jarred by rotation
Of sky and ground
Sky and ground they jar me
The stench of petrol
Burns my throat
And fuels my anxiety
I wait for it all to stop
But realise momentum is king
I’m tumbling down a bank
Accepting life for what it is
I brace for the impact
Over and over
End over end
Amen
