This Fine Spring Day

Strains of John Mayer's Gravity
Fills the air
Wafting from the portable speaker
By my beach chair
I'm parked on my lawn
Catching rays of
Vitamin D
On this rare
Sunny
Spring day
I stretch languidly and purr
Like the happy feline
Lounging next door
"Lovely day"
We nod to each other
A cardinal flies by
Catching the sleepy cat’s eye
And the bird lands close to its paw
But the sun has worked its magic
For the cat doesn't pounce
As the bird pulls a worm
From the soft dewy earth
And flies triumphantly away
The sound of a lawn mower
Breaks the birdsongs
of the morning
And my soft rock sounds
of the day
And the clean scent of
Freshly cut grass
Perfumes the breeze
Ruffling through my hair
The postman stops by
To drop letters in the box
And offers a cheery good day
before he goes on his way
A Woman is calling the cat
To come home
And I swear I hear the feline groan
She stands up slowly
And flicks her tail
Then looks enviously
Back at me
I shrug with a smile
As she grumbles goodbye
And regally slinks away
Then I turn up the volume on
"It's a Beautiful Morning"
And let the Rascals
Take me back
With eyes closed
Senses in control
I'm Free falling
On this beautiful
Spring Day

Hi Penny,
Hi Penny,
wouldn't it be great if we could bottle moments like this and uncork them at will? Years ago I would have been sat with you and the feline, but sadly now I cannot take the sun and stay in the shade.
I did enjoy your poem though and the idea of listening to John Mayer just adds to the mood.
Jenny.
