Near the Lion’s rock
Stands a Sycamore tree
With carvings of romance
Initialed in its trunk
A deep jagged heart
Engulfs two letters
Against the white of
Exposed bark
Year after year
It withers not
Through summer’s drought
Or winter’s cold
This living testament of love
Carved by two unknown lovers
Does beg one to wonder
If the love so artfully depicted
Has also endured the test of time?

The concentration on romance
The concentration on romance so often these days neglects preparation for the work needed to endure the test of time of two imperfect people working through their imperfections irritating each other at times! (Often much money and thought spent on preparing an exotic wedding, but still little on preparation for a life together.) Rhiannon
