"Time and Stardust"

Time, we measure it, watch it, demand it go faster, command it to slow down and pray to stop it.
It is the background to thoughts, actions and feelings.
We mark it with memories and capture it in eternal, sunshine thoughts wrapped in holiday trimmings like treasures we rediscover for needed solace.
Immortalize timelines, marked on certificates of birth, diplomas, college degrees and tombstones, denoting our existence.
Time, the constant task master, laughingly fades with old age as clarity is lost within the white noise of jumbled word searches. Time's soldiered minute hand falters, running backward into shadows, away from the flashlight of brainwaves scanning through the darkness, looking for lost selves, reflecting off the farthest waters glowing brighter as waters below muddy with confusion.
Time measures to the last second conscious thought as we question if energy within is compost for the universe?
And if stardust we be…to stardust we'll return?
Are the brightest stars in the heavens the true constant of life?
Then if so…time be damned.
