Depression

Depression.
A compression of feelings, cementing you at the roots,
sprouting like poison ivy, spreading until darkness completely covers you.
A noose, a knife, anything sharp insight,
shimmers with light, like a fire exit sign,
a glimmer of hope enters your mind.
Fight or flight, right now you're ready to take off.
A permanent holiday, that isn't gonna cost much dosh!

Hi Collette.
Hi Collette.
You describe those feelings well - the being weighed down, darkness and in the middle, all the threatening stuff. And then that 'glimmer of hope' where you change the perspective from 'you' to 'I' - not much to hope for after that holiday. I think it might work better if you kept it as 'you' throughout, but that's just my opinion, though. I recognise the feelings behind this piece, as will others, but thankfully, like you, I have always had my writing as an outlet.
Good poem. I look forward to reading more of your work.
