Chapter 1
Children of the Moon
“Chimera’s savior, Wayferra’s warrior God,” said Terrance Moss, a thin woman in her mid –twenties as she leaned forward in her white recliner and ran her fingers through long blonde hair just before peeling what looked a piece of dead skin from her left temple. “We have to call him something dramatic-heroic, do we not? He has a following now. We can’t just hide in the virtual universe and hope they forget him.” She continued as she slid her pink jumpsuit clad body to the floor.
“Terra put your com patch back on. You don’t really want be here, do you,” Said Crampton Mays, a thirtyish black haired man, casually dressed in shorts and a gaudy Hawaiian shirt. Shifting his tall gangly form in the recliner facing hers, he reached for her fanning his hands about like blind man feeling his way through an unfamiliar room. “I can’t see you. I don’t like that.” He said sitting up and tapping his temple to turn off his V. U. patch. “There, just as beautiful in the real world as you are in the Old Earth Bahamas, but way over-dressed. You know you could have actually worn your bikini.”
“If you want that then go back in and cue up you’re virtual version of me you have hidden in your secret porn stash, yeah I now about it.”
“And you’re not mad,” he asked, his face blushing.
“Mad, I don’t care. We’ve been married three years. If you prefer a computer generated me, than have her. I, we have much bigger problems than your disgusting virtual sex life.”
“I know. He’s just hanging there. What’s been, a month since he fried those mutated mutants. That was not supposed to happen. The human mind, especially his is just full of surprises.”
“He did the unexpected, the unplanned, we weren’t prepared.” Terra said, waving her hand toward the rooms domed ceiling. Suddenly they were beneath the skies over Wayferra-present time. Kian stared down at them from the center of sky ceiling. His eyes were open, but they were glazed white as if afflicted with cataracts, his face and body frozen against the blue.
“She still visits him,” Terra’s features grew wistful. She darted her eyes at Cramp and belched, “must be nice.”
“That was deep one, you’re such a lady.”
“Hush I had heavy breakfast. You should never have told him he had to kill us.”
“Terra, please, we want him to project. Vengeance is a powerful motivator on Luna. Old Earth is no different. They come from us remember.”
“And we came from him Cramp,” she shot him a hateful glare, “still can’t see the resemblance. Kia didn’t die or any of his fairytale friends. He saved them all and he still didn’t come after us. I think he’s broken. ”
“Or maybe he can’t. He willed his self out of his body once, when was too young to know better. He’s been in the real world too long.”
“Real world, Cramp there is no real world, Chimera’s proof of that. We can do anything, make whatever reality we please.”
“Oh really, then why is Kian hanging in Wayferra’s sky like a human chandelier and we can’t snap him out of it. Why do we have to resort virtual reality for a change of scenery? And why are you so worried about all the little people that keep all our settlements running smoothly from finding out that Chimera is not a made up piece of fiction serve up for entertainment at the Mind Movies but Earth, radiation free perfectly livable Earth? Clearly there some things we cannot do!”
Terra tilted her head to one side, and smirked. “Okay, you’re right, we are not Gods, but we are perfect liars. We show our workers the truth every day and make them believe its’ a fantasy. I’d say that pretty God like, don’t you?”
“Yes as long as it serves our purpose and keeps them happily distracted, it as God like as we need.”
