I want to see you swim
and overcome obstacles
that threaten –
a crying child
parent too, separation
not a delight
wind hesitates knowing
the power
it wields, can turn his canoe
around, swamp it too.
Opens his eyes and yields
to the view --
a crumbling marriage, loss
of life that promised
faithfulness to the end:
days of iridescent charm.
