A Candle for the Homeless

No more cuppa coffees

already had two

caffeine just too much-

hard to sleep on empty

‘cause picking’ too slim.

Not able to collect

enough bread for a tasty

sandwich had to fill

up on more stale donuts

from deli's trash bin

leftovers after night shift.

Always on the cheap

it’s time to shuffle back

to my midnight suite under

an open-air village bridge.
