The garbage man is trucking
again – lifting other
people’s waste and broken toys.
Backing to the bin of treats
awaiting – perhaps
a broken chair needs fixin’
or not-so-used iron for Sophia.
His wife understands –
items brought home for use.
There’s a baseball glove
in great shape, perhaps not
quite the gift some
child needed – his son does.

Excellent poem. Yes, some refuse collectors used to view salvageable items as perks of the job, I hope they still have time and find some goodies. I'm sure a lot of stuff that gets chucked out in our great post-Crimbo re-gurgitation of excess only needs a bit of TLC in reasonably skilled hands Elsie
