From PEI

the redhead came
belly protruding -- unwanted
at home

the way it was in early days
a single mom
a family stain

the shame of it all --

especially for a baby
with no mom and dad to share
the joy.

Now far away from prying
eyes a birth takes place
---a cry for life.
