ran swiftly with thighs of steel
on trails from paled evening light
leaving smudges in the snow
where friends shared the limelight
and moon offering no one favours
with a lit-up path minus danger.
He was very brave this large hare
and not above showing off speed
on a day the sun shone brightly
liked to frolic and be on his own
while friends hid in the deeper woods
unafraid he showed a flashing white
hoping to hide within the snow --
this race was seen by eager eyes
not interested in speed at any state.
Day did end -- forever and at rest
now he shares a meal of dining
luscious legs bragging from a plate.
