A Roar Too Often

Sammy is ten

dad’s home again.

Children crowd

around mom so he

can’t bother

her some more.

Haven’t seen him

3 days gone

since pay day.

Left for the door

no turning left

to the bank--

right promised more.

Now he’s here

exploring our faces

head low

see the tears

in his eyes

wine did it all. But

he’s still our dad

and we want

to love him again.
