Superman-Dad
By Richard L. Provencher

Voices murmur from
below:
Only seven and
already lost his dad.
Jon ran
downstairs past
the startled
crowd munching from
an after funeral
food table-
Not hungry he yelled
ran to his tree-house and
climbed rapidly.
His hero-Superman
was indeed gone
a best
fisherman
in the whole world-
Why did you leave me?
he cried
a heart attack responsible.
Jon looked out
the window at the bird
house they built.
A chickadee
flitted back and forth
as if trying
to cheer him up.
He tried so hard to be brave.
Sudden tears of
manhood
splashed across his face-
I miss you already
Dad.
