In Tears and Sentiment

My heart girds the anguish
of TV news --
Taliban turmoil in Afghanistan
rebels within Sudan,
terrorists on Egyptian soil
and suicide bombings among
civilians in Iraq, notwithstanding
US troops departed
yet tormented people are never
diminished --
Ukraine nor North Korea
no matter where the location,
their lives a testament
of struggle against adversity.
We share anguish
in those tortured faces,
victims of Mexican drug wars
the need for
North American food banks,
escaping from
a brute of a husband --
tired souls possess a passion
for survival, to reclaim
a land of ancestral domain
and I am in bondage
to their spirit.
