Leaves hopscotch before
a parade of Autumn
wind. Sheep shuffling hooves
baa for grain -- trees
dressed as Poplar and Fir
surrounding.
Feathers are a kaleidoscope
of scuffling from one
branch to another -- and
scattered in heaps a woodcutter’s
cache of winter hard
wood. Dogs slumber within
familiar sounds. I marvel
at the stillness. Llamas now trot
to a fresh patch of grass.
Dexter cattle mooing happily
as they
bend and chew -- a donkey’s harsh
braying. My lady and I watch
and listen on an afternoon
of sun-filled Alberta.
