The Top of the Mountain

Black was once very difficult

as a future on this land

and I felt shame knowing

my whiteness shone

brighter in the scheme of life:

President Obama brought a

face full of shade

ingested with pride-

Black no longer

at the back of the bus

no more

KKK except Martin Luther’s

impossible dream-

now we can walk hand in hand

with new dreams for all.
