to dad. Mom was the strong one
in our family after dad’s return from
WW 11 full of lifeless image
striped with the remnants of booze
that got him
through strafing days
hard to forget times and
bombers returning to Command
filtered with Ack-Ack fire
from over Germany and someone’s
son in bits and pieces.
Finally home he came bringing back
memories of friends without faces
unable to return to their own
moms and dads and family ties
that was dad
carried such memories
surviving bullets and booze and
we still loved him.

A poignant poem. Not enough

A poignant poem. Not enough respect or understanding was ever shown to the brave men of Bomber Command, many of whom never spoke of their ordeal. Thanks for posting.

Hi Richard. My Dad who died

Hi Richard. My Dad who died in April was in the RAF in Burma (my set 'An Ordinary Man') and a close family friend flew Lancasters with Bomber Command in WW11. He was awarded the DFM but unfortunately passed away just before the Bomber Command memorial was unveiled in London recently. I would be interested if you have posted anything of your Dads' wartime experiences on here.
