We Have Heroes

We Have Heroes
in our midst. One
who carries himself awkwardly
a school bus did this
when he was only seven
hit him hard after children drop-offs.
And the Lord gave him
a will to live—
now 60 and praising His name.
Then that lad whose
motor-bike got side-swiped
by a car – beer in the driver’s seat
sent him flying over
the handlebars. Now he
stumbles along the street. A cop
stopped him one day--
drink too much mister
no the answer with a smile
just glad to be alive.
There’s Peter not too
swift they say. An IQ of sixty
equals hugs and love
in his heart. There are no
strangers in his life only
new friends.
I love you his refrain. Now 50
in age and still a young
at heart in the eyes of our Master.
Bless the disabled Lord.
Also bless those who give them a
space in their own eyes.
Bless the parents who forever
love them.
Bless these once children
now grown
into their communities
of valour.

A good comment on the
A good comment on the blessing that can still come, despite accident or disability, where love and trust gives grace not bitterness – to those who bear it, to those who notice their joy in struggles and are encouraged, and to those who support and benefit so much by so doing. Rhiannon
