Life in Old London Town
Born and bred, South London boy
War is over oh what joy.
We pulled what’s left out of the rubble
Cuppa char love, that’s no trouble
The doodlebugs have done their worst
We’ll get stuck in and build homes first
Neighbours they all pull together
Sleeves rolled up stuff the weather
Watch the buildings rise again
Cockney folk still feel the pain
Prefabs, what a great idea,
Instant homes and not Ikea
Ration books to keep us fed
Bacon, Butter, Eggs and bread
Just enough to keep us going
Coal fires warm us embers glowing
Bombed sites are our playground
No rubber mats on stoney ground
Trees become our climbing frame
Scrapes and Falls, part of the game
Thoughts of London years gone by
Pea souper fogs, my oh my
Couldn’t see a yard ahead
Scarves wrapped tightly round your head
Ted’s and Hippies, Mods & Rockers
Mini skirts, flares and winkle pickers
Times moved on and life’s a gas
We kicked ol’ Adolph in the Ass

Hi Roy, must have read this a dozen times. Love to hear it read out loud, whilst drinking a pint! Thanks for the entry.

Wonderful rhythm, I don't think you can read it without reading it out loud! Really evoked memories of London in the sixties for me.
