Here are a few facts about my recent life. I graduated from college
at the end of winter term with a degree in English. I owe the
university a few hundred dollars and they haven't sent my diploma yet
but it may be that they will.
I've been living at my parents' house in a country neighborhood
outside Klamath Falls, Oregon. For a while, I was hanging out and
having adventures with a friend of my youth, Chris Siens. It seems to
me that this was a valuable break from the social isolation I seem to
live my life in. However, I broke off relations with him because he
repeatedly drove recklessly with me in the car.
Aside from that, life here has been flat and unprofitable. My parents
have a strange way of living: the house is in disarray, they're working
professionals but spend their leisure time laboring away at a string of
shoddy rental houses, their lives revolve around four undisciplined
dogs who make it hard to do household chores, etc.
For a while, I considered going to teach English in Thailand. I found
that a few schools were interested in me. But then I received a call
offering me a job writing the script for a sort of pseudo TV show that
promotes real estate in regions across the country. I had interviewed
for this position and thought that I might get it. Well, they want me
to move to Portland, Oregon where I will try to hack out an existence
in the corporate jungle. I have $6,000 in abandoned debt and other
problems that seem to follow me.
Recently, I've been watching videos of my deceased grandma and
grandpa. My grandma left one where she talks about her whole life; I'm
impressed by her intelligence and determination. My grandpa's video is
of him on a hot air balloon trip; he comes across as gruff and
optimistic. Video, a fairly new invention, records a person's very
personality with stunning precision.
