I Was, I Am, I Will Be

I was a child
as I wish again to be
with a heart full of wonder
and a head of curiosity.

I was a mirror
as I should never be
gripped by society
reflecting what they wanted of me.

I am a student
as I have always been
with a book under my arm
and a pen within my hand.

I am an amateur
as I have never wished to be
with a long list of mistakes
and a great more ahead of me.

I will be a fighter
as I have always dreamed to be
with a sword made of knowledge
and a shield of bravery.

I will be an example
as I know I should be
with wisdom in my eyes
and a long life ahead of me.
