Why Didn’t You?

Why Didn’t You?
Why didn’t you kill me today Lord?
Why didn’t you kill me?
An accident on the highway,
A head on collision,
A roll down the mountain,
Or a drunk driver loses control?
A bullet to my head,
In a car-hijacking?
A drug addict,
Out for knife-crime?
An asylum escapee?
Point blank death from anger issues?
A heart attack?
That would’ve been the easiest one;
Or organ failure, short and quick.
Painlessly gone.
Why didn’t you off me Lord?
Why am I still here?
A wondering form of flesh,
Shameful, alone, lacking love.
You’ve taken many home, Lord,
Yet I remain. Why?
Why didn’t you kill me today Lord?
Why am I still here?

Interesting mix of directness
Interesting mix of directness and mystery. Who is the narrator? Is Good Friday part of the poem? Elsie
