Magician

It was a wonder
when the lady (radiant)
disappeared
right before our eyes
and when the man ( handsome, tall)
cut her in two, she smiled right through 
even as he stuck the knives in
Bravo!  Bravo!

The gold- ringed spotlight
dazzles

On stage, up close
he was not so handsome, nor so tall
as before but
I found I already knew
how  to vanish

Being cut in two was easy
I had only to lay back
and allow it 
And what woman hasn't kept smiling
even as the blade slides in
 
He conjured up a private show just for me
A velvet blindfold,  silver cuffs, a diamond edge knife
between my teeth 

It's a wonder
you  would think, that here I am, whole and unmarked
(though less radiant) right before your eyes
what can I say?  It hurt;  I have scars

But what of that other woman?
