He Laughed In The Wind

He laughed in the late afternoon wind
At the top of a Tennessee
Mountain
He stood on its overlook that
He’d finally reached alone
And when he laughed,
The wind suddenly stopped blowing
All round him got quiet
The eerie sensations that overcame him
Helped him to decide
Once and for all
That now was the time
That they’d never be
A better one
So fatherless, Godless,
And nearly friendless,
The youth flung himself
Mightily,
Laughing,
Into the gulf that lay below
Him and the Tennessee mountain
Overlook.
