I rode away into forever –
pedalling for eternity
it seemed; 
 
up the proverbial hill
and down dale...powerless
to stop to veer back
to level ground
 
just kept on going
gathering momentum
down that bottomless slope
 
Until the day
I grew wings...
 
let go of the handlebars
rose from the saddle...
flew straight on up
back to rationality...
 
landed with a bump
on a plateau, and folk
smiled and said, 
 
‘You’re looking well,
starting to accept the status quo, 
learning to cope, adapting to living
on your own...’
 
except they didn’t know
couldn’t see 
how they grow –
 
those wings, beneath
my coat.

I loved the building sense of freedom running away with tthe narrator - the joy of it, and tthe not wanting it at the same time.

There's everything in this poem Tina, the struggle, then exhilaration of speeding down that hill unable to stop...just like in life, when everything seems out of control, but then comes acceptance and you can feel proud that for once your back on track. Or may be I'm on the wrong train of thought!

I really liked the similarity between the bike ride and life in this poem.
