Now that her horse had been slaughtered, Bella thought there was nothing left for her, she kept
going over and over in her mind how stupid she had
been. She had no idea where her Father was and she
thought, her Mother must be frantic with worry.
'Oh what have I done?' she thought to herself. Now
she was free, she wished she was with her family,
instead of out here in the cold and the elements.
Arvid looked at the sadness on the childs face, her purity touched him, he felt she did not deserve all that had happened to her, she was oh so young.
There was little meat left, from Arvid's hare, he
had managed to spear. He divided the rations between them.
"Where are we going?" enquired Bella. She felt the
tears sting her eyes, as she wiped them away.
Arvid really wasn't sure where they would go, he
had always relied on Jonah to lead him.
He had been with Jonah, nearly all his adult life.
He ran away from his parents, he remembered his Father would beat his Mother, but still she stuck
up for him, and defended him always. It made Arvid sick to the stomach and so he had left.
Arvid answered Bella, "I think we should just keep walking, until we find people. After all we have travelled quite a way and we still haven't seen a
single person."
"Have you any family Arvid?" said Bella.
"No!" snapped Arvid, "now come on, wipe those tears away, we need to get moving."
Bella realised this was a touchy subject, so she
never mentioned it again.
