Gazing out of the ship's window in wonder, Penny couldn't believe what she was viewing, It had been so long since Dawson and the others had left, she'd almost given up hope of ever seeing them again, thinking they were lost, or even worse dead, now here they were with a group of others and some youngsters. It was such a great moment, she'd hold it in her memory forever.
Penny had seriously been considering leaving now they were back in contact with Obsidian, it had only been Justin and Stewart that had convinced her to wait longer. Because they were the ship's technicians, they had no idea how to fly the craft and it needed more than one person to take them home.
Charlie the computer had also been against the idea, advising Penny they couldn't leave without the Ship's Captain. Penny on the other hand thinking they'd never return, was under the impression she'd be able to fly home with the help of base control, though Max wasn't so sure that was a good idea either.
Just at that moment Addie appeared, with a feeling of relief. “Phew! You don't know how good it is to be back on board Penny!”
The woman didn't know what to say, a feeling of guilt washed over her at the thought she could have left without them.
“Well! Aren't you going to give me a welcome hug Penny?” Said the Captain, as she stood speechless.
Penny came to her senses, hoping that Justin and Stewart wouldn't say anything. “Of course Captain – It's so good to have you back.” She stepped towards him, feeling uncomfortable about hugging, it wasn't something she was used to doing with the Captain.
Advancing forward, Addie reached out for the woman and took her in his arms. “I've never before been so pleased to see you, we've been on such a long journey.” He then pulled away looking out the window at the others, who stood waiting patiently. “I've bought some friends along, we had no choice but to help them and now they're coming back home with us.”
“But isn't that against the rules?” Professed Penny, feeling rather worried about how the Minister would react.”
Addie smiled at the woman not in the least worried. “He'd never allow them on Obsidian, but this is an entirely different situation and one I cannot ignore.” He pointed to the boys. “Those children have been through a living hell, they've suffered at the hands of a very bad man, I intend to rectify the situation, but for now, we really need to get these people on board.”
Penny wasn't so sure, but did as she was told and opened the main door. As it opened, the snake like creatures with ten wings began flying in off the Ocean, it was a scary sight. Penny waved frantically to the group to hurry. Dawson of course remembered only too well the flying creatures and told the children to be quick, telling them to run like their life depended on it, which in actual fact was true.
Without even thinking they all dashed as fast as they could across the sand, not daring to look back, finally reaching the door. As each person boarded the Craft, it felt strange to Penny being surrounded by so many. The boys were out of breath, gathering in a small huddle, even the normally out spoken Varden stuck like glue to Gideon and Gerrard, their only thoughts were! 'Will we ever get out of here alive?'
“Penny! Will you take the boys down to my quarters, they'll need to get cleaned up and purified.” Addie knew how strange it must be for them, but at least they were safe. “Can you get them some food tablets too? They're so hungry.”
The woman was only too happy to help, although she had memories of visiting the New World many years ago, it still felt strange to have these people, who they'd seen on their cinema screens back on Obsidian, suddenly aboard their ship. She also considered the Minister's words, that bringing people from the New World to Obsidian could affect the balance they'd created, though she knew they could erase all their memories, it was still a worry.
Ben was taken along to the Ship's medical room, where he was asked to lay down on a special bed so their machine could check him out. Ben couldn't believe any of this was really happening, and thought perhaps he was in some kind of dream state and would wake up at any moment, but here he was in the flesh, in a strange place. Fern would never believe any of this! He thought! Then wondered if he'd ever see her again, and what about his daughter Netty! Would the poor child ever see her Father again? He desperately wanted to be back with them so badly, it almost broke his heart and for the first time in his life, tears filled his eyes, as he tried to sleep, eventually drifting off.
Tawny had to be placed in a cage for his own safety. Brad thought Simon would be upset by this, but the boy just shrugged in acceptance. Brad had no control over Simon now, it seemed the boy was the most happiest of them all, he felt very much at home in this new environment and embraced every moment, though it was alien to all of them. “Perhaps this is my son's destiny!” Whispered Brad to Addie. “I've never seen him smile so much.”
“Well I have to admit he does seem to be taking all this well, but then again he did hold the key to our freedom, so I have a feeling he's a special child, maybe even a Chosen One.” declared Addie.
“Well!” Announced Brad. “I'm very proud of him, he's a lot braver than I am.” Brad grinned and joined his son, who was checking the ship out.
Addie took Dawson and Brett along to the computer and touched the screen. “Charlie! Do we have visual contact with Obsidian?”
Charlie the computer's voice came booming into the room. “Obsidian are now reconnected – do you wish to speak with Max?”
“Yes Charlie!” Stated Addie, “put me through please.” He was desperate to know what had happened back home.

...and I'm desperate to know
...and I'm desperate to know what happens next, so I quickly get on to the next chapter...that's if I can get out of my mind those ten-winged creatures which sound very awesome...it not terrifying
So very much enjoyed, Jenny. Your writing always 'takes me out of this world', that's why I love it so much, I guess.
