The next morning was Boxing Day and yet more snow
was falling, the children were out in the garden
making their very own snow man, with the help of
the old man.
"Well at least he hasn't done a runner and left,"
said Martha smiling.
Rusty still wasn't sure about the snow, he didn't
much like the flakes falling on his nose, he kept
shaking himself and sneezing.
John went out into the garden, to talk to their
guest.
"Have you remembered your name yet?" he asked.
"No I still cannot remember, it's like a closed
door to another life, I cannot seem to open the
door." The old man was looking sad.
"Well," said John, "I've rung the police, they
said they would be on their way over."
It wasn't long before they arrived. Martha answered the door.
"Oh hello Officer's please do come in. We found
the old man freezing under the bridge in the
village, he doesn't seem to know who he is, or
where he's from, the poor man would have frozen
to death, if we hadn't found him."
"You say he has no identification on him?" asked
one of the Officer's.
"No nothing," replied Martha. "He's out the back
with the children, come on through."
She lead the Officer's through to the kitchen. The
old man stood at the kitchen door.
"Sir!" said one of the officer's.
"Um! What is it?" the other officer asked.
"He's the old guy in the missing person's file,
he went missing weeks ago. I definitely won't
forget the face."
"Right okay, well you had better come down to the
station with us, let's get this sorted out. You
must have people, that are very worried about you."
The old man turned with a relieved expression on
his face, glad to know that finally he would be
going home.
"I won't forget what you all did for me. I promise
I will return these clothes, just as soon as I can."
"That's okay, just glad you have been found, just
don't go missing again," replied Martha.
She gave the old man a kiss on the cheek.
"Take care of yourself," she said.
At that point Ellie and Robert came running in
from the garden, with Rusty barking excitedly.
"Mum, why is the policeman here?" he asked.
"Because our guest is going home and the Officer's
are taking him home," replied Martha.
At that point Robert ran up to the old man and
gave him a big hug, then Ellie gave him a kiss on
the cheek.
"You won't forget us, will you?" Ellie said.
The old man had tears in his eyes.
"How could I forget, the people who saved my life."
He said his goodbyes, then left with the two
Officer's. As they drove away, the old man waved
from the back seat of the car.
