Rayna had fallen asleep on top of some papers, and woke up with a back pain.
The smell of brewing coffee filled the house.
For the first time, Rayna actually spent more than two minutes getting ready for school.
She wasn't completely sure why, but she felt the need to look nice today.
Even going as far as to borrow clothing from Maya.
She removed her nose piercing, and toned down the makeup.
She came downstairs, and was immediately stared at.
"What's wrong?"
Asked Rayna.
"Nothing.
You just look...
Different!"
Answered Mariya.
"I just woke up in a good mood, that's all.
You seem to be in a better mood."
"A little bit.
Your sister called here a few minutes ago.
She said that she's fine, and is considering coming home."
"That's good news."
"I've never seen that outfit before.
Is it new?"
The outfit was Maya's.
She bought it a year earlier, but never wore it because she felt it wasn't sexy enough.
Rayna did not want to tell her mother that it was Maya's because she knew she would never hear the end of it. Seeing as, Rayna tried so hard to be different than Maya.
She lied to her mother, and said that she had just bought it.
Maya had told Rayna she could have it, but she denied the offer.
Antanas had left for work early because he had to leave early yesterday because of Maya.
"I don't want anything for Breakfast today, Mom.
I need to get to school early."
Said Rayna.
"Something is different about her today."
Mariya thought to herself while putting the frying pan away.
Rayna walked to school quickly.
When she got to school, she was greeted with stares, stares by nearly everyone.
The same people who had ignored her all together for the past several years.
She received comments like,
"You look really nice today, Rayna."
and...
"I like your new look."
There were also whispers.
"Who the hell does she think she is?
Her sister doesn't show up for school one day, and she comes to school dressed like that?"
Rayna ignored everyone, including the ones with the nice comments.
She truly couldn't care less what other people thought of her, everyone except..."
Rayna saw Mr. Antonov walking down the hallway, talking to someone on his mobile phone.
As he walked by, he smiled at her.
So far, the highlight of her day.
Sure enough, Maya was no where to be found.
It was only the second day of the new semester, and already Maya was ditching school.
It was now time for History class, what Rayna had been looking forward to.
Professor Antonov was there, and ready to teach...
His every word seemed to burn itself into Rayna brain.
Rayna really wanted to impress him, especially because she believed that he could help get her accepted into Vittoria University.
The worst part of the day was when class was over, and life returned to normal, not that her life could be classified as "normal".
Two days had passed, and it was now Thursday.
Rayna hated the fact that tomorrow would probably be the last time that Rayna would ever see Mr. Antonov.
As much as she did not want to admit it, she had developed quite a crush on the handsome professor.
This was the first time that this had ever happened to Rayna.
She had never had anything close to a boyfriend before.
She knew that Professor Antonov was off limits, and wasn't even sure if he was married, but
she still liked to image that he cared for her.
Maya still had not returned home, but called home every now and then.
Rayna hated to admit it, but her life seemed to be getting better since Maya left.
She was always in Maya's shadow, and now she had stepped into the light.
Of course, she wasn't sure how she would react to Mr. Antonov leaving.
She barely knew him, it couldn't be that bad.
Also, tomorrow her essay was due, and she was nervous to present him with it.
