Escape to the Sun

She opens her eyes, but only sees dark.
She's done nothing wrong, but there's guilt in her heart.
Why is there such pain without ever knowing?
No tears left to cry, no love left for showing.
She's blamed for things which she did not do.
She cares too much not to give into you.
Whenever she tries she just fails again.
She prays every night for this to end.
But some things in this life will just never be. Some things in her life she won't get to see.
One night she gets fed up.
She can't take no more.
She gets up from bed, and heads straight for the drawer.
Trying to hurt him, she took her own life.
Died without minutes.
Used the sharpest of knives.
Seems like such a waste, a true gift this world lost.
To escape the pain, she would at any cost.
But what she didn't realize is that he still doesn't care.
He's found someone else.
Doesn't know you're not there.
But someday he'll wake up, and say, "What have I done?" and she'll open her eyes, and escape to the sun.
