Aphrodite is the Goddess of sexual love. These types involve women who try to find life's truths through physical love. They are light and do not like to think about deep things. They certainly do not like to work. Her husband is Hephaestus who works alot. Aphrodites live out of the grace of life and the image of her being out of sea foam is appropriate. I can only think of porno stars when I think of Aphrodite. This is awful since there are many levels of love and man kinds of love... affection, appreciation, eros and self-sacrificing love. But with Aphrodite, I will simply talk of physical love. First, pornography is a very fundamentalistic point of view. It is a physical counterpart of fundamentalist religion. Pornography, for the most part, says that people are motivated by a desire for sex and power. Of course there is pornography that shows women having sex out of the grace of her being, but such pornography is few in number. Pornography also reinforces racial stereotypes and reinforces the racial pecking order. And pornography says, "This is the way the world is. Take it or leave it." Pornographic performers have taken over perhaps the position of the cults of Greece in which sex acts were part of the religious ritual. The God Apollo, according to certain feminist critics, raped his priestesses. Anyway, porno stars are usually very contemptuous of the world and they see themselves as doing the world a favor with their sex acts. Some of them have a very luminous quality to them, and some also appeal with the girl next door quality. Most of them want to be the center of attention, mistaking it for the center of being. They undoubtedly have had a rude awakening, undoubtedly most of them would love to have rich lovers. BUt life becomes a dead-end with a philosophy so simple and wise. I'm sure many of them drift into thoughts of suicide wondering if this is all that the world has to offer them. Some of them find consolement in the fact that they are preventing some men from committing a violent act by satisfying them sexually. Pornography never combines sex and guns. There has never been a complete study of the relationship between eros and thanatos. There has never been a study done on repetition compulsion and its relationship to violent, anti-social behavior.
