The female squirrel is a real tantalizer. She enchants with her winking eyes. Winking has, in some ways, been associated with lies and also with a kind of hypnotism. Love thumps in the male squirrel's heart. He wants her madly. He would do anything for her.
The acorn is a symbol of a prized food that they both desire. Desire is conditioned by the Will. There are forms of desiring that are deep and embedded. Whereas the desire for food and survival is conditioned by our will for the contest, the aggression, and the need, love creates a culture, a home instead of a house.
There they go, jumping off a cliff with a desire for the acorn, and yet, making a lovely dive of that desire. They hold the acorn together, knowing that they can share, but in the end, the female chooses the acorn over the lover. The male squirrel splats on the ground with the lovepuff pressing out the sign of love into the air.
It's a beautiful scene.
