Kevin walked to school with a serious face. He felt like he was wearing a mask but he didn't care. He wasn't going to be funny and cute anymore. He wanted more than anything to be taken seriously.
When he arrived at school, he didn't hear the normal chatter in the hallways. He entered his first class, looking at the ground. Then, he heard people crying. He looked at Jennifer. Her face was filled with lines of tears, travelling like clear veins all over her face.
"Jennifer, what's going on?" he asked. She hugged him as tightly as she could. "Brook... she's dead," she whispered. Kevin looked up at the ceiling, then tears started to form in his eyes as his confused emotions began to burst, releasing channels of sadness and anger. He cried and cried and cried, and then some more. He became almost faceless as tears began to wash his face until he could barely see anymore. He was angry, he was angry at God and he wanted to know, he wanted to know why she died or how she died. He wanted to know why he had begun to hate her. It wasn't her fault. It wasn't her fault. Then he looked into Jennifer's eyes. They were so gentle and kind and she had a halo over her head and he kissed her softly.
"I'm sorry," Kevin said, "Do you know why she died?"
"I really don't know why death happens when someone is so young."
"Did someone kill her."
"Kevin," she whispered, "Someone raped her and then threw her into Champagne River."
That made Kevin feel guilty. He had wanted to rape her too. He blamed her for everything.
Kevin kissed Jennifer again.
