WE often speak of mythology as lies. George Orwell, in "Why I Write," states "political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidarity to pure wind." It's a true statement. Now, I am not a Democratic Socialist like George Orwell, but I am realistic about the political language of Kennedy. Political language is a mythology. Kennedy employed the myth of Camelot into political language. Here, he was appropriating from WASP mythology, the mythology of King Arthur and his noble nights. Whether King Arthur existed or not is a moot point. We also know from history that knights were not all that noble... that they probably stole from the poor and raped or seduced women once in a while to satiate their appetite. They did have a bond with noble women. They were their guardians more or less. What Kennedy and his family loved about the myth was the whole idea of nobles (knights) being a shining example to the rest of the world. It went well with the myth of the "City Upon a Hill." Each knight went on an individual quest to more or less save the world. Upperclass people in America either centralize the Athenian mode, Jewish mode, or Arthurian mode of individuality into their souls. In the Postmodern Age, many upperclass people even centralize the Japanese mode into their souls (Steve Jobs, Founder of Oracle). If Kennedy was King Arthur, then who was Lancelot. Lancelot was Bobby Kennedy. If so, was Jackie Kennedy secretly in love with Bobby Kennedy? Jackie Kennedy was one of the firm supporters of Joseph Campbell who wrote the "Power of Myth." Did Jackie introduce the myth of Camelot to the Kennedy Family? Surely then, she should have realize that there were implications in the myth that could be damaging to the family. In the myth, the whole kingdom comes to ruin because of Lancelot's affair with Queen Guinevere. In the "Wasteland" by T.S. Eliot, the central theme of the poem is about how England comes to spiritual ruin because of the affair that England is having with Greek, Satanic, and Eastern texts. England no longer finds any renewal in its own traditions and literature. Well, anyway, no affair causes a modern country to dry up and die. BUT many academics in the 50's, at least according to Joseph Campbell, were turning to Marxism, and Marxism really acts like a religion. Some were definitely turning to Eastern mysticism, including Einstein. Earlier, the New England Transcendentalists, had turned to Indian mysticism. Nietzsche's deconstruction of Western Philosophy as personal constructs revealing nothing but the will to personal power was deeply influenced by Schopenhauer, another philosopher deeply influnced by Indian thinkers or sages. When I read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis, I was literally shocked by how many of the criticisms of C.S. Lewis was from Nietzscheans. I always thought that they would be from Marxists. But I digress. My whole point is is that Kennedy was, in some ways, forming alliances with emerging groups who posed a significant threat to the Anglo-American World Order. At the same time, it is very incorrect to assume that just because groups are against you, that they are all part of a conspiracy to overthrow you. Most minority groups cannot get along with each other and share mutual hatreds and jealousies.
