Marlon Brando. Method Acting. Stella Adler. His teacher. Marlon screaming Stella during Streetcar. The Passion of Marlon Brando. Marlon's bisexuality. Marlon's anger against his father. Was it righteous anger? violent anger? The fuel for his method acting?
Anger be your song, starts out the Iliad. Marlon is fueled by anger. As a young child, he channels anger into rebeliion, already method. His father has neglected his mother and his mother has turned to the bottle for comfort. A long day's journey into night. He does playacting for his mother to keep her amused. The mother cannot castrate the father and the father turns to violent and abusive behavior toward both son and mother. They become a team. Marlon becomes moody, irritable, and lacks concentration. Acting helps him focus.
Anger is a difficult Muse. It leaves you, abandons you. Marlon learns to abandon women. No one is going to hurt Marlon. Noone is going to abandon Marlon. His mother already abandoned him to alcohol. No one is going to fucking hurt Marlon. In NY, he finds the beautiful, intelligent, and domineering Stellar Adler. She wants to unleash the Italian inside of him. She's going to get alot more than the Italian with all his false emotions. She's going to tap into the psyche of Marlon, a towering passion and anger to rival the terribilita of Michelangelo. Along with passion, she's going to get a whole nest of repressed emotions, including sadism, which he cannot control. But this is method. She teaches him imitative techniques of behavior that may be a gateway to a person's thought. Gestures are formalized thoughts and feelings, gesture-acts have buried speech acts within it. It's shorthand. Watch a person's gestures and you'll see the body language. What a person actually says is not the truth of what a person is.
In one of his early plays, Marlon learns to channel his anger. it's a long, protracted process. His face is transformed and he goes into the 4th dimension. In the 4th dimension, you see time. You see the past, present, and future at once, but only a portion of it. He sees the faces of anger that he is going to wear in time unless he learns to formalize his anger. His anger will kill him.
