Morning After 5

Jay Lee worked in the law office for six hours without taking any kind of break. For the first time, he really felt at one with the text, analyzing the case and forming a strategy for winning the case in court.
He was finished. He looked at the other case he was working on. It looked easy. He sat back in his chair, sitting high on a cloud.
"You're really fucked," a voice said.
"Who are you?" Jay asked shockedly.
"I'm Rachel, your wife."
Jay got off of his chair and began to look around. He looked outside of his window, down at the streets. He opened the door to his office and looked outside, both left and right, down the hallway.
"I'm in your mind, you piece of shit," Rachel's voice answered.
"What are you doing there?"
"Sitting, having a cigarette."
"How can a voice sit and have a cigarette?"
"Can you hear me? This is my voice after too many cigarettes."
"What do you want?"
"I want to know if you married me because we looked right OR if there were any deeper feelings involved."
"What deeper feelings?"
"Individual feelings."
"Like love?"
"Yes, like love."
"I don't know. I can't really remember a thing about you."
"Not even feelings."
"No. Nothing. In fact, I feel like I've been forced into an arranged marriage. Everyone says I was married to you so it must be true that I was married to you but I feel like I had no choice. Everyone said you were my wife so you are my wife."
"So nothing below the surface."
"Why do you ask?"
The voice disappeared into silence.
