The NOW Culture: Hookups

I first read about hookups in the New York Times. A hookup is when two people hookup and have sex without any commitment to a relationship.
It's happening in colleges, but it's hard to know where it started. It could have started in the upperclass with women or men who were disaffected with their spouses or society, with people who do not want to be part of a tribe or class for one day, and to feel free. Or with people who no longer believe in marriages.
It could have started in the ghetto with men who need a sexual fix for the day when they got rejected at another job interview.
I really don't know where these trends start. They must start somewhere.
I had one conversation about hookups with a 20 year old at a bar.
