In movies like Sense and Sensibility and Wuthering Heights, a Byronic personality is presented. In Sense and Sensibility, the character makes a woman fall in love with her and then ditches her for his true love. It is hard to ascertain whether the woman to whom he is devoted is someone whom he owes money to or not. Regardless, she is a women of means and power. She has engaged him in the game of a social kill... he has marked her as someone who cannot rise socially.
