To say that we are heading toward a classless and raceless society is a assumption I never quite understood. First of all, what is meant by classless? Is class simply a cultural construct that can be historically deconstructed or is it real, a real tension that exists within us between our ideal self and true self? Einstein is one of the scientists who asserted that race was a false assumption. Einstein was somewhat naive in his political judgements and remained so. Werner Heisenberg was actually more realistic in his political judgements. Einstein found perhaps East Asia and Japan and Buddhist Metaphysics to be the possible salvations of mankind and he was darkly wrong about that.
What is class? Marxist and Anthropolgical angles on class have almost always mystified me for its lack of a clear definition. What exactly is the upperclass and how does class struggle work as an existential phenomena to bring about a classless society? To be a classless society, do you have to limit language to 4,000 words or so? Do you have to have a consensus as to the meaning of those words? What happens if someone does better than the flock, the sheep who obey the communist leaders? In the Soviet Union, there were pogroms against the Jews (ethnic cleansing) and a higher bar set for Jews during examinations. One test for the Jews and one for the Rest. Does this represent a raceless society? There's no incentive to do any better in a communist society. There's actually a deterrent.
Looking at the US, in Ivy League Schools, Asians actually face a higher bar for admission than others. I noticed myself, going to various community colleges in New Hampshire, that I was graded on a different scale than others. Is this really raceless? I teach sunday school at church and I really love my church although it is liberal, but looking at all these kids who all want attention all the time, who constantly chat amongst themselves and I constantly have to plead for some quite time, I really wonder, is this the classless society? God is an entity who's center is everywhere and circumference nowhere. I feel like human society have become this image of a misinterpretation of God.
So with the curse of bipolar disorder, I find myself working myself into a mania almost, trying to do the best I can for a society that believes, that truly believes that East Asians owe them something. What do we owe anyone? We worked ourselves to death in the pineapple fields of Hawaii. Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese faced horrific racism from blacks, Jews, WASPS, and others for years and years. Yellow meant cowardly because we woudln't strike back when other hit us. Californians still haven't paid the Chinese workers wages owed years ago or have they now? What I'm trying to say is that as much as I try to pretend that the US is some colorless, raceless society, and as much as I try to ignore discrimination, I find that it really affects my behavior. I become, cold, emotionalless, almost Vulcan in my response to others.
I have no incentive to excel.
