Somewhere In There

I see you falling as if in slow motion
And crash heavily on the unyielding ground
And I am filled with a special devotion
To the person within I haven't yet found
You jerk in mute agony and the alien noises
Slice the fearful air like like an ancient scythe
And I attend to your pain and your distorted voices
And watch compassionately as you wriggle and writhe.
And from your head explodes a million fireworks
And a thousand naked flares.
But I know that this is more than I can bear
I'm sure that you are somewhere in there.
You scramble to your feet and glower
And psychotically, slowly, raise your hands
And everyone feels itis their final hour
And the floor has become sand
You are choking your best friend to death
And you howl like a wolf and lick your lips of blood
We finally yank you away to our left
And we temporarily ride the flood.
It is finally over and we are all shaking
And we sit you down in a chair.
But I can't forget that chilling stare
And I can't see how you were in there somewhere.
You come round slowly and piece by piece
The personality puzzle reunites
And finally the demons are released
And you cry your soul out into the light
And as you sob I feel a gaping guilt
For I don't know who to feel sorry for most
And as we prepare the tea, the cigarette and the quilt
I smile for we have exorcised the ghost from the host
And you scream with sorrow and needless guilt
And an anguish like that I cannot compare.
As we lay you down you make a trademark joke
And I know that you were somewhere in there.
