Make Fun

My boyfriend had been breaking my heart, as you read in a prior journal story....
Well, he began to make fun of me in a phone conversation, and so, I told him, I said, "If you don't quit then I'm going to hang up on you."
He said, "You wouldn't do that."
And I said, "I will. I would hang up on you, and cut my phone off, and not talk to you until tomorrow."
And he said, "You wouldn't be able to do something like that to me."
And now, a little irritated, I calmly and cooly said, "Bet me."
Then he said it in a joking voice, "I bet you wouldn't do something like that to me!"
I smiled, and the word, "Bye" escaped my lips, I hung up the phone, and then cut off my phone, and laid it on my bed. I smiled at what I had just done, I had stood up for myself for the first time. Now all that there was to it was holding to what I had said, to teach him the lesson... could I do it?
I sat there, staring at the phone, dozens of thoughts racing through my mind, 'is he mad?' ,'what now?' ,'should i call him and make sure he wasn't mad?'. So, I calmly got up and walked into the livingroom and told my parents what I had done, and they were smiling and proud.
"Hold to what you say." Mom said, "You'll give in within two minutes."
"No, she'll give in before nine o' clock." Dad smiled.
I looked at them, "No.", and walked away.
But could I really be true to my word and keep my phone off? The worry and panic drove me crazy, crying, and staring at my phone blankly. All these crazy and worried thoughts racing through my mind, should I really have been so harsh?
I laid down, shut my eyes, and went to sleep.
