Self Defensive Love

Sitting there with my friend
Looking into her eyes
As she told me the scariest of all things not seen
I held her why she wept
Tried to make the tears fade
But her bruises kept reminding her of the life that awaited her
An abusive husband
The lies as he cheated
And she couldn't leave him because it would all get worse
So I did nothing that night
But what she told me to do
And that was good enough because it would end all things
I only bought the poison
She slipped it in his drink
As I held her and she cried I realized just exactly what we'd done
In the act of self defense
In the act of mere bruises
We had taken a life and taken it as we did we would be judged
As we stood there in court
As I held her hand
We told them of why we took the actions we did and we were released
As an act of self defense
We got away with murder
Even though we hated ourselves inside and we no longer could look in a mirror
And as I held my friend
Her dead body cold and wet
She had shot herself due to hatred of what she had done
In the act of love
Love kills all
Because even in the happy cases something always goes wrong
