13.
Everyone froze and just gaped at each other for a moment. I was the first to run pass them and bolt up the stairs.
I gasped as I bumped into someone at the top of the stairs. It turned out to only be Jack.
"It came from that other room." He said, his eyes wide.
I turned and ran through the hall toward the other room. The door was already open so I stepped inside.
Suddenly I was hit on top of the head hard and I collapsed to the floor.
I turned over and gazed up through blurry eyes. I could see two people standing beside the doorway.
As my vision cleared I saw that it was Edward. And the redhead girl Lindsay.
"You released her." I said to Edward.
Jack entered the room and Lindsay pointed something at him. It was a revolver. Henry must've gave it to her.
What caused the gunshots?
I looked around and gasped from what I saw.
Mike was lying on the floor beside the bed, and his girlfriend Kelly was lying back on the bed. They were both covered in blood.
Lindsay couldn't have shot them so quickly. Was it Edward that shot them?
I looked up at him and studied him. His eyes were blank, his face expressionless. Could this kid really be the one that shot them?
"Drop your gun, dirtbag." Lindsay snapped with her gun pointing at Jack. "Do it!"
Jack held the gun at his side but didn't drop it. As crazy as he was today, I don't think he planned to drop it at all.
"Jack," I said as I placed my gun on the floor and slid it to Lindsay's feet. "Just drop it man."
He glanced at me with confusion. But then tossed his gun at Lindsay's feet as well.
Edward bent and picked them both up. He held one in each hand and for the first time today, he actually appeared threatening.
I heard the others coming down the hall, and so did Lindsay. She stepped in front of the door and held up her gun.
They stopped running and froze a few feet from the door.
"You come in, they die!" Lindsay snapped.
Jack inched toward her as she had her back turned but Edward raised his guns and pointed them at him.
"I told you we should've been killed the punk." Jack said with a sneer.
Lindsay shut the door and locked it. Then she turned back to us.
"Down on the floor." Edward snapped. I could hear in his voice that he was just trying to sound tough.
Jack stooped down on the floor as Lindsay kept her gun trained on him. I could see her hands trembling a little. Was it from fear, or did she have bad nerves?
I couldn't tell so I decided not to make a move yet.
"How could you do this, Edward?" I asked. "You had just been helping us on the ship. You even saved Henry's life. Why are you doing this now?"
"Isn't it obvious?" He said. "I did what I had to do to survive. And I made it. I had to get out so I could save my sister."
"Sister?" I gasped.
Then I suddenly realized it. They both had red hair, from the same family, around the same age. Ofcourse they were kin.
I groaned. "I should've known."
"We don't want anymore trouble." Lindsay said. "We just want to leave and no one else gets hurt."
"For now." Jack muttered.
"You know there's a whole other group of us to get pass downstairs." I said with a sneer. "You won't get far at all."
Lindsay smiled and my sneer faded.
"You think this is our first time here?" She asked. "We've been here before. Stayed here a few times so we made this our own go to place. We know this place better than you could imagine."
Jack and I glanced at each other. Jack frowned and I wondered if he was thinking what I was thinking. Did Henry know them? Is that really why Edward had stuck by his side and even saved him?
Lindsay raised her gun to the corner of the ceiling and fired.
The corner of the ceiling crumbled to the floor, leaving a perfect square allowing sunlight to shine in.
Just like the one back on their ship.
Lindsay pointed her gun at me and I raised my hands.
"You," She said and pointed to the dresser in the corner across from the crumbled ceiling. "Move the dresser under the ceiling."
I glanced at Jack and smirked. "It's already under the ceiling."
We both laughed and Lindsay blushed.
"Move the dresser under the hole in the ceiling." She said through gritted teeth.
"I can't do that alone." I said shaking my head. "I'll need Jack to help me."
Lindsay looked at Jack and motioned for him to go over to the dresser.
We both stood up and moved slowly to the dresser.
Edward crept pass Jack with both his guns raised. "Don't do anything stupid."
Jack sneered at him and shook his head.
"Come on, Jack." I grabbed one side of the dresser as he grabbed the other.
We began slowly sliding the dresser over to the hole in the ceiling. As we got closer, I noticed Jack had a weird look on his face. As if he was thinking of doing something stupid.
I lowered my eyes as we finally edged the dresser under the hole.
I turned to Lindsay and she nodded at Edward.
"You go first." She said and aimed her gun at us.
Jack and I stepped away from the dresser as Edward made his way over to the dresser.
"Step back." He said waving his gun at us.
I moved away from the dresser and so did Jack.
Edward climbed up onto the dresser and shielded his eyes from the sunlight.
Jack startled me as he ran over to Edward and grabbed his legs.
Edward let out a cry as Jack tugged his legs from under him and caused him to bang his head on the top of the dresser.
I turned to Lindsay as she pointed her gun at Jack. I ducked and ran over to her.
I tackled her to the floor and she screamed angrily. I grabbed at the gun in her hand as she struggled to hold on.
She was stronger than I thought and she aimed the gun at my face. I moved my head to the side just as she fired. The bullet whizzed right past my ear.
With a burst of strength I tugged the gun out of her hand. Then I climbed to my feet and pointed the gun at her.
She climbed to her feet too but suddenly froze.
I glanced back at Jack and saw that he had a gun pointed down at Edward as Edward lied on the floor. He had another gun in his other hand pointed at Lindsay.
I quickly turned back to Lindsay. She could've made a move for the door but others were waiting out there for her. Besides, I don't think she wanted to leave her brother.
"Lindsay, go!" Edward shouted. As he sat up. There was a bruise around his right eye and his nose was bleeding.
"No way." She said as she glared at Jack and I.
I heard groaning over by the bed and saw Mike moving around.
"He's alive," I sighed in relief.
Suddenly Jack groaned too and I spun around as he doubled over.
Edward had punched him in the groin and now grabbed at one of his guns.
I felt Lindsay's foot kick my hand and the gun fly from my grasp.
When I turned to her I saw that she'd caught it.
She aimed at Jack and fired.
"No!" I shouted and grabbed onto the gun, stopping it from reloading.
She growled and tried to pull away but I held on tightly.
I tugged her as hard as possible and the gun finally tore from her hands.
Before I could even get ready to aim at her, she stumbled backward and off balance. Then she smashed through the window hard and tumbled out into the open.
