I peeked out the front window and gasped. Everyone from the party was on their knees with their hands behind their heads. There were atleast seven men walking around and they were all armed with guns.
Their ship was right near the shore, anchored to the sand so it wouldn't sail away. Not an old-fashioned ship, it was more of a fresh white ship that could passed as a small cruise.
The camp fire was still lit nearby providing light for the men. Everyone had their back to me so I couldn't see their faces but I bet they were all terrified.
"Who are they?" Brandy whispered beside me as she studied the men with wide eyes.
I noticed some of them were dressed in old tattered clothes. As if they hadn't had any new attire in years.
"Pirates." Was all I could come up with. Who else could they be. Were we on their land? What could they want with us?
I looked back at Jack as he slowly paced the room.
"What are you doing?" I snap. "Do you want them to see you?"
He stopped pacing and sat on the edge of the couch across from the fireplace.
"How could this have happened?" He asked aloud as he wiped blood from a cut above his left brow.
Lily was sitting in the other couch biting her nails. Jack reached over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder. She jumped as if she hadn't even realized he was there.
"You okay?" He asked. She forced a smile but didn't answer.
I turned back to the window and saw a woman, atleast I think it was a woman, walking around with a bag in her hand. She went to each person on their knees and they placed something in the bag.
We're being robbed, I realized. I crawled away from the window and sat on the floor near the fireplace.
I rubbed my forehead and tried to think. Would they let everyone go?
I looked over at the dead man on the floor. He had barged right in and tried to kill me. Will they try killing the others?
Brandy gasped and backed away from the window.
"What's the matter?" I said as I climbed to my knees.
"Someone's coming," She whispered. "What if they see that man's body and gets angry? Then they'll try to hurt everyone."
I shook my head. "Just hide."
I crawled around the coffe table and went behind the couch. Jack grabbed Lily by the hand and headed down the hall. Brandy followed them.
I grabbed up the shotgun and hid behind the couch that Lily had previously been seated.
I heard the person's footsteps as they stepped into the room. I held my breath and tried to listen to any other sound.
I heard a sob and then something clattered to the floor.
"No..." I heard someone whisper. "No way."
I let out my breath slowly as I moved closer to the edge of the couch. I couldn't help it so I took a quick glance around the couch.
Someone was stooping over the dead man's body with a gun a few feet away from them.
Thankfully they had their back to me.
I rushed from behind the couch and up behind them. Then I slammed the butt of the gun on the back of their head.
They slumped to the floor over the dead man's legs. I gave their side a nudge and flipped them onto their side and gasped. It was a girl.
She had long red hair which was now draped across her tanned face. She was wearing a baggy red flannel shirt and black trousers along with black boots.
"Yup... Definitely pirates." I said shaking my head. "We need to tie her up with something."
* * *
Minutes later I had dragged her through the hall and to the next room where everyone else was. I told Jack to tie her up. I planned to question her later about their arrival. I also didn't want her to run and tell her friends what happened to the dead man in the living room.
Which reminds me...
"We have to hide that man's body." I say to Brandy. "I'm... going to need your help okay."
She nods and follows me back into the living room. We nearly gag when we see how much blood and brains was still all over the floor and wall.
Brandy sighed and looked as if she was about to cry. "It won't work, Matt."
I scratched my head and shrugged. "Well... we'll just have to wait and--,"
"Lindsay!" We hear a shout that startles us both. It was coming from outside.
"Get out here, girl!" The man continues to shout. "Don't make me come in there after ya."
"Shit." I mutter under my breath. I stooped down and creep over to the door. The door was still open ofcourse, so I had to stay back and be sure not to get caught.
"Lindsay, I'm goin' to start doin' these people without ya." The man shouted. "I was goin' to let you get the first shot. So bring uncle out here so we can get started!"
My heart beat rapidly in my chest as I realized he was ready to kill everyone. I built up the courage to finally speak.
"Don't you do it!" I shouted. "I have your daughter. If you hurt anyone, she's dead and then you're next."
Suddenly everyone began talking all at once. I couldn't make out what they were saying. Then the talking ceased as quickly as it had started.
Then the man spoke again. "I don't believe it... There's no way. I heard shots... I know I heard shots. You should be dead but you're not. So that means... Uncle Lou is dead."
I looked down at the dead man, Uncle Lou's body. Then I turned to peek outside.
There was a man standing a few yards away from the house. He had a gun in each of his hands and they were both shaking. More likely from rage than fear. Though it was dark, I could see that he wore a dark jacket and jeans. He also had a beard similar to Uncle Lou's.
"You killed Lou right?" He asked.
I don't answer. I don't want to admit that I actually killed the man.
"Right?!" He suddenly shouted extremely loud which made me jump.
"I-it was an accident--," I try to explain but he starts laughing.
"Well we don't want to send old Lou to the afterlife with no company, do we?" He said as he turned and started walking back over to everyone else.
I glanced back at Brandy as she gulps.
I turned my attention back to the outside. The man threw his gun to the ground. Then he yanked someone to their feet. It was Mike.
He tried to pull away but the man wouldn't let him.
"Maybe we'll send this guy to join him, eh?" The man shouted looking back at me with a sneer.
"No!" I shouted. "I told you, it was an accident!"
"That's okay, I'll make his death look like an accident." The man said. Then he pointed his gun at Henry who was nearby on his knees. "Take him onto the ship. We have to make everything fair."
Two men yanked Henry up by the arms and dragged him to the ship as he struggled.
"No, please!" I begged as I stepped out of the house. "It was an accident, we can work something out."
The man ignored me and hit Mike on the top of the head with his gun. Mike fell to his knees. The man gripped the gun with both hands and aimed it at Mike's head.
"I said it was an accident!" I scream and raise my shotgun at him, though I was too far away to hit him from here.
"Nooo!" Brandy screamed from behind me and ran full speed toward him.
"Brandy no!" I shouted lowering my gun and starting to go after her.
But the man turned to her, his gun pointed at her chest. The shot echoed through the night as he fired.
