Brandy slumped to the sand, landing on her back.
"Nooo!" I howled in fury as I charged toward the man who shot her. But suddenly shots began to fire all around me. I dropped to the sand and saw most of the kids climb to their feet.
They began to fight against the pirates. Mike got up and punched Brandy's shooter hard across the jaw.
I saw a pirate heading over to Mike and I climbed to one knee. I aimed at the man's leg and shot it.
He let out a yelp and tumbled across the sand.
Mike stooped down and picked up the gun that Brandy's shooter had thrown away.
"Harris," A young man from nearby shouted as he struggled with a teen. "Are we allowed to kill everyone now?"
Brandy's shooter growled and punched Mike in the face. Mike stumbled backwards a few steps.
"Kill them! Atleast enough of them so that the others will gain respect!" Brandy's shooter, Harris, shouted.
I gritted my teeth and stood up, aiming the shotgun at Harris. The man who had just shot my girlfriend without a second of hesitation.
He was so careless. He didn't care about anyone here. He'll kill all of us if he has too. Unless we kill him first.
I aimed at his head and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Just a clicking sound from the empty shotgun.
He turned his head towards me and sneered as he saw me with the gun. He aimed his gun at me, but Mike punched him in his stomach.
He doubled over and held his stomach with his free hand.
I stepped forward and kicked him in the face. His head jerked back and he fell backward onto the sand.
"Get everyone to run into the house for safety." I ordered Mike. "Grab plenty of weapons."
I walked over to Harris as he propped up on his elbows. I stepped over his body and lifted the shotgun by its barrel. Then I slammed it down on his head as hard as I could.
He fell back down and his eyes rolled back in his head. I shook my head and grabbed the gun from his hand. I dropped the shotgun beside him.
"You bastard," I snarled as I aimed it at his head, preparing to end his life. But something rammed hard into my ribs.
I stumbled to the side but caught my balance. I looked up and realized it was the guy that had been struggling with one of the teens. The teenager was now lying on the sand with his neck twisted in an awkward position.
I growled and swung my free hand at the boy that hit me. He ducked quickly and punched me in my side. Then he upper-cupped me.
I fell down onto my back but rolled to the side. Then I got up and was back on my feet.
I realized the gun was still in my possession. I aimed it at him but he spin kicked it right out of my hand.
I let out a yelp as pain engulfed my right hand but I was able to block his next kick with my forearm.
I stepped forward quickly and then punched him square in the face.
The punch didn't seem to affect him as he shook it off and resumed his fighting stance.
I raised my fists but also took a step back. I know a professional fighter when I see one. I would have to look for weaknesses but his defense was pretty strong and solid.
He took a step toward me and prepared to strike.
But a gunshot blasted through the air. Then another one.
I ducked low and looked around frantically. That's when I spotted Kevin with a big shotgun in his hands. His jaws were tight as he fired shot after shot at the pirates.
The young man backed away from me and sprinted toward his ship. I started to go after him but I felt someone grab my arm.
I spun my gun toward them and started to fire.
But I stopped when I saw that it was Lily. She placed a hand gently on the gun, forcing me to lower it to my side.
"Don't chase him to his territory." She said.
I nodded and turned my attention to Harris. He climbed to his feet and staggered toward the ship.
I shook Lily off me and then began firing my gun wildly at him.
Bullets grazed his side and neck but he continued to the ship.
I saw someone moving on the ship and I looked up at them. It was an older woman. A group of men and women stood behind her.
I squinted at them as they raised something in their hands. Then I gasped as I realized what they were holding.
Crossbows!
I grabbed Lily's hand and tugged her with me as I ran in zig zags toward the house. I didn't see Brandy anywhere on the sand so I kept running.
An arrow whizzed pass my ear as I ducked and dove through the doorway. Lily came in after me. I started to shut the door but I left it open for Kevin as he ran toward me.
An arrow plunged into the back of his leg and he fell to the ground.
"Damn!" He cried and crawled toward me. Arrows plunged into the sand right between his legs as he dragged himself forward.
I gritted my teeth and stepped back outside. A few arrows missed me by just a few inches as I grabbed Kevin's hand.
I dragged him across the sand and to the steps of the house. He reached forward with his other hand and grabbed the doorframe.
An arrow grazed my face and I winced from the pain.
Kevin was finally able to pull himself into the house and I slammed the door shut behind him.
