I sat beside Brandy as she slept on the floor of the family room. She was lying on a few blankets which were now covered in blood.
She had been shot a few inches above the heart, but she had lost a lot of blood. We managed to wrap up the wounds but she would still need to be taken to a hospital in order to make it alive.
I said a silent prayer for her to be able to make it and looked down at her face. She looked a bit too pale which didn't seem to be a good sign for me.
I called one of the teens over to me, the one that had been explaining her condition to me.
"She looks a little pale." I said, my voice cracking.
"She'll be fine for now." Krishna said. She sighed. "Anthony would've been able to help her, but the pirates got to him."
I nodded. "I understand. But thanks for your help."
She pushed her wire-rimmed glasses up on her nose. "I just wish I could do more."
Then she left and headed into the living room. Jack entered just as she left. He had been the one to drag Brandy into the house during all of the fighting.
"How's she doing?" He asked with a grim expression.
"Krishna said that she'd be okay for now." I told him. "They still have Henry."
He scowled. "To hell with Henry." He said and I glared up at him. "What? He's the reason all of this happened anyway! This is his party and his responsibility."
"Blaming each other won't get us anywhere, Jack." I said as I reached over to brush Brandy's hair off of her face.
"Well it make things a lot easier." Jack said. "It's a good thing that I came... Now I can protect Lily."
I nodded and looked up at him. "Where is she anyway?"
"Upstairs." He said as he sat in the chair over against the wall. "You know Lily. She hates trouble of all forms."
"You think Henry's still alive?" I asked and he groaned. "I'm just asking."
He shrugged. "Maybe. I mean the daughter is stil here, so--"
"Wait... where is she?" I asked climbing to my feet.
"Upstairs." He said standing up as well.
I turned to the stairwell and ran upstairs. When I got to the top I turned the corner and headed to the first bedroom.
The door was open and several people were already standing inside. Some stood in the hallway and nodded to me as I walked pass them.
I entered the bedroom and saw the girl in the corner of the room. Her hands were tied behind her and her legs were bounded together with rope. There was a scarf tied around her head as a gag.
Kevin stood over her glaring down at her with hatred.
"It's your fault, you know." He said. "All of this. This wound in my leg, it's because of you. All of the deaths here today are because of you and your insane people!"
She looked up at him with fear in her eyes.
"Kevin!" I shouted and he spun around. "Just stop it alright?"
He limped away and I shook my head.
"What did Jack do? I told him to tie her up, not make her look like a hostage."
I reached down and removed the gag from her mouth.
She glared up at me her chest rising and falling rapidly. "You all are so dead." She growled through gritted teeth.
I ignored that remark and asked for her name. But she ignored me as well and looked around the room. I don't know what she was looking for but I didn't care.
I sighed. "Fine, don't tell me your name. I believe it's Lindsay. That man called for you not so long ago. But what are you and the rest of your people doing here?"
She still didn't answer so I started to get impatient. She just continued looking around the room.
"Ugh..." I groaned and turned away from her. "Come on say something."
I turned back to her and saw that she had a sneer on her face.
"You all are so dead." She repeated and I gritted my teeth. "You said to say something."
"Many of my friends are hurt today." I say to her and she looked down at the floor. "Some are dead. Even your people are hurt. Don't you want this to end?"
She glanced up at me and laughed. "Are you kidding me? You killed Uncle Lou... You kidnapped me, and you all attacked the Marsavians. The chaos hasn't even began." Her eyes scanned the room wildly. "No one will leave this place alive."
I nodded. "I guess we'll just see."
She shrugged. "I will... But not you."
I turned and started to leave the room. Jack stood in the doorway in front of the other teens.
"Jack," I said. "What should we do to leave this place? Could we get the chaperones to give us a ride on the boat that brought us here."
"I guess, if they're still around." He said. "We have to get Brandy to a hospital."
The girl chuckled. "She won't make it."
I spun angrily toward her. "If she doesn't make it... Every one of your people will die."
She lowered her head. "Many surprises to come then."
I started to reply but I decided not to.
"Come on, Jack." I said to him. "Let's find a way to get to that boat."
